Sony Has Trouble Marketing Products

Monday, January 12th, 2009

I’ve always seen Sony as one of the dumbest companies in the world. A lot of the decisions they make with their products are forehead-slappingly stupid (PS3…less functionality for the same price).

Their latest ad campaign hasn’t done much to change my mind either. They tout their new Vaio P laptop as being “pocket-sized”…as illustrated in this photo of a chick trying to wedge the thing into her incredibly tight rear pocket. Bravo, Sony.

Gizmodo has some pretty awesome user-created spin-off ads too.

CES 2008 – What You Can Get Excited About

Friday, January 11th, 2008

CESThe Consumer Electronics Show ended on January 10th after four long days of companies climbing over each other to show off their latest and greatest innovations. As you can see by checking out a site like Engadget or Gizmodo, the sheer amount of crap that is shown off is nothing short of overwhelming so it’s difficult for a non-nerd to sift through and find things to really look forward to. That’s where we come in. We’re just nerdy enough to check out all the coverage, but just normal enough to spot the things that will really have an impact on our lives (and wallets) in the coming year. (more…)

Format War Boxing Gloves

Editor’s Note: As of February 19th, 2008, the HD DVD format is dead. Blu-ray has won the war. I liked this guide though, so I’m going to leave it up.

There’s a war going on right now, only it’s not the kind that’s fought overseas with guns and tanks (not yet, anyways). Its battles are fought with marketing dollars, on message boards across the internet and on store shelves. It’s the worst kind of war, besides those ones mentioned before with the guns. Those are worse.

It’s a format war, and it’s causing mass confusion and apathy.
