Elizabeth Hurley Quits Film Industry

Elizabeth Hurley

There are reports flying around that everyone’s favorite British actress (besides all the other ones) Elizabeth Hurley is quitting the film industry to spend more time being a mother.

“Filming is very hard with a child, and I found I wasn’t able to be a good mum and do movies,” she says. “I really do very little film work at all. I decided I couldn’t really do movies any more, which was a huge decision because I love making movies.”

I know, I know. She was kind of a crappy actress. Just look at that picture. That alone makes this worth posting. Here are some more to help you in the grieving process. (NSFW) (more…)

Apple TV - The Future of Home Theater

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

AppleTV1Apple has always had a stranglehold on the music industry with their iTunes Store. Their latest target: Hollywood. They upped the ante at this year’s Macworld conference when they introduced movie rentals through the iTunes Store. Users can now rent from a growing collection of movies from all of the major studios on their computers and transfer them to their iPod or iPhone. That alone is pretty cool, but what really makes this a huge deal is Apple’s often overlooked Apple TV and its ability to rent many of those movies in HD. (more…)

Review - I Am Legend

Friday, December 28th, 2007

I Am LegendIt’s rare that a movie can completely surprise me nowadays. Trailers usually give so much of a movie away that by the time you’ve finally watched it, you feel like you had already seen it once before. That was not the case for me when I saw I Am Legend. I went into it completely unaware of the plot and I think it helped me enjoy the movie a lot more than if I knew exactly what to expect. (more…)

Review - Sweeney Todd

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Sweeney ToddThe holidays are upon us and what is better than sitting down and watching your favorite classic movie like A Christmas Story, Scrooge, or how about a throat slashing musical? Uh, yeah. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are at it again. Another dark depressing movie set to a classical tune and song, Sweeney Todd is a depressing tale of a barber that was thrown in jail on false charges for 15 years. His wife and infant child were taken from him. Upon his return to London, he meets a girl (Helena Bonham Carter) that runs a meat pie bakery that helps him set his revenge on the man that set him up. Sunday, December 9th, 2007

XBox HD DVD1So you’ve read through our Dumbass’s Guide to the HD Format War and you’ve decided to take the leap, huh? Well I commend you, brave soldier. If you’ve got an XBox 360 and you’re looking to get into the HD game without breaking the bank, then Microsoft’s HD DVD Player is the best and quite possibly the cheapest way to do it.

When Good Actors Do Bad Accents

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Robin HoodOne of my favorite blogs, Cinematical, has a list of seven of the worst accents in movie history. I can only say I’ve seen one out of the seven movies (what, you think I’m made of time?), but what they had to say about that one was pretty funny. Go check it out.

A Dumbass’s Guide to the HD Format War

Format War Boxing Gloves

Editor’s Note: As of February 19th, 2008, the HD DVD format is dead. Blu-ray has won the war. I liked this guide though, so I’m going to leave it up.

There’s a war going on right now, only it’s not the kind that’s fought overseas with guns and tanks (not yet, anyways). Its battles are fought with marketing dollars, on message boards across the internet and on store shelves. It’s the worst kind of war, besides those ones mentioned before with the guns. Those are worse.

It’s a format war, and it’s causing mass confusion and apathy.

New IBM Patent is Scary as All Hell

Monday, November 26th, 2007

IBMA new IBM patent would allow for companies to stick advertisements right in the middle of a DVD movie. So you’d sit and watch a bit of the film, then all of a sudden a commercial would start to run, disabling your fast-forward button. Once the commercial is over, you’d be returned to the film. The point of the patent is to offer lower-priced ad-supported DVDs to consumers and provide another revenue stream for movie studios. Personally, I think I just shit my pants.

Cloverfield: It Might Just Rock Your Socks Off

Cloverfield

If there’s one movie to watch out for in the coming months, it has to be Cloverfield. Produced by J.J. Abrams (producer of the Lost tv extravaganza), this movie’s got a lot of hype surrounding it. Of course, that’s dangerous for any film because rarely can anything exceed these kinds of expectations. Check out the trailer on Apple’s website and keep an eye out for it. It’s expected to drop on January 18th.
