Back from the Frozen North

Monday, November 17th, 2008

As much as I complain about Florida’s heat and humidity, it sure is nice in the winter. Especially after sitting through a football game in 40 degree weather and having to board a plane outside with snow flurries. We’re back from our (free) trip to West Virginia to watch UCF beat Marshall. We met some amazing people and had more fun that we thought we would. I’ve got some stories that will soon make their way onto this site so stay tuned. First I have to go thaw my toes in the bathtub.

Heading to Huntington for the UCF-Marshall Game

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

I never knew where Marshall University was located. I didn’t really care either. Then my girlfriend won the “UCF Getaway” and we got a free vacation package to watch the UCF at Marshall game in Huntington, West Virginia. We get a free flight, free hotel, and free tickets to the game. Not bad for filling out some random contest form at Nascar Cafe in Orlando.

We’re staying at Pullman Plaza which is located right next to the center of town. Apparently there are lots of bars in walking distance from the hotel, so this will be an excellent trip. Oh it’ll also be 46 degrees which might as well be 0 to this Florida dude. I’ll make sure to take plenty of pictures and stuff…and you should see if the game is being televised in your area. Maybe you’ll see us.

Gitty for Heroes

Friday, August 15th, 2008

We are so close to my favorite time of the year.  Fall!  Football, cooler weather, and new episodes of TV!  I was shown the new trailer for Heroes and I’m in total fall TV mode.  Lets get done with these Olympics and on to Hayden Panettiere jumping around and kicking ass.

EA Extends NFL Exclusivity Contract

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Madden FootballBack when the Sega Dreamcast came out, NFL 2K absolutely rocked my world. That game looked and played so much better than any Madden football game it was crazy. Then in 2004, EA, the people behind the Madden franchise, signed a 5 year exclusive deal with the NFL and NFL Players Association which killed the 2K football games completely. The developers took another shot at it this past year with All-Pro Football 2K8 but the game flopped without real NFL teams and current players.

It looks like 2K football will have to stay buried for another 5 years as EA just announced an extension to their contract until the end of the 2012 season. It’s really a bummer because, without any competition, EA isn’t forced to outdo anyone else. They’re able to just incrementally update Madden each year and release it as a new game with a fresh $60 price tag. They still sell millions of copies year after year though, so they must be doing something right.

Gmen vs the Pats - Super Bowl XLII

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Eli ManningVS Sniper Kitten

The stage is set for the biggest game of the year for all of American sports and the two teams facing each other are probably not the most likely foes. Well, the Patriots were pretty much a shoo-in since week nine when they beat the Colts but who would have picked the Giants? The Giants have done something no other NFC team has done: win three road playoff games to get to the Super Bowl and ten straight road games for the year. (more…)

How to Throw the Perfect Super Bowl Party (From a Guy Who Knows Crap About Football)

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

First off, allow me to take a moment and give a shout out to all the guys out there who don’t watch football. You’re OK in my book. Or you would be, if I had a book. Anyway, it’s completely cool to not be into football. I’m not, and I say that proudly. I could give two shits about it, actually. However, I love the Super Bowl. It’s a great excuse for a party, and it’s a day that pretty much everyone is universally down to get drunk and hang out. Even though I don’t watch football, I know how to throw a mean party. Most of my formative years were spent doing just that, and I have references available if you don’t believe me. Anyway, on to the partying! Follow these guidelines, and even if you know nothing about football like me, you’ll be the most popular guy there. And let’s face it, that won’t happen too often. (more…)

Packers One Step Closer to Glory

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

Packers in SnowYeah, I’m a Green Bay Packers fan and I live in Orlando, FL. So what? I just have to say that tonight’s game against the Seattle Seahawks was freakin’ awesome. Even in blinding snow, the Packers managed to put up 42 points and move on to the NFC Championship. Now if Tom Brady would just lose, this would be the perfect night.

150in. Panasonic Plasma TV Makes Me Drool

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Panasonic TV

Panasonic have outdone themselves again at this year’s CES by releasing this mammoth TV. The scary thing is that it’s 50% bigger than the 103 inch model they released last year. I’m not really sure why it’s necessary or how it would even fit through a door, but I want one. I think you would cause some minor brown-outs when you turned it on for the first time.

Just imagine what football would be like on that sucker…or the Food Network. Something about a 150 inch closeup of a freshly-baked pie gets me excited.

I can’t wait for next year’s model.

Favre Injured. My Fantasy Football Team in Jeopardy

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

Brett FavreI started this season with a 9 game winning streak. 9-0…unstoppable. Then I lost two in a row. I wasn’t too worried about it until Friday morning when I learned that Brett Favre injured his shoulder and his elbow. It’s a scary thing when your main man is hurt. According to coach Mike McCarthy though, he’ll be fine by next Sunday when he will continue to kick some ass. Ok that’s not a direct quote but it’s the truth.
