I’ve talked about my band megaphone on here before. In the past, I’ve preferred to keep my personal life separate from my Average Dudes life, but right now we could use all the help we can get. The local rock radio station here in Orlando is having a contest to determine who the “Best Band in Central Florida” is. Now, personally I don’t think that the number of votes a band can drum up accurately determines how good they are, but I didn’t make the rules.

Anyways, if you could take a second and go vote for us, that would rule. This thing has been going on for about a month now and they’ve narrowed it down to 8 bands. Voting for this round only lasts through Sunday, March 8th so if you’re going to do it, do it quickly! If we move on to the next round, that will begin on Monday the 9th and there will only be 4 bands left. Here’s the link to vote. Just click the bubble next to “Megaphone – Gravitate” (you can listen to the track if you like), fill in a valid email address at the bottom, then watch your inbox for the confirmation email. Drew at BenSpark.com (recent winner of some Shipyard swag) is holding a contest right now. He’s got a great big box full of stuff that he’s going to give to one lucky reader. We’re learning the hard way (that’s what she said) how to host a contest. With a failed attempt at a photo contest under our belt, we decided we really wanted someone to get these DVDs. I’m sure at least two of you were wondering what happened with the Halloween costume contest we were running. Well the short and sweet of it is that we got one entry from Jason at GorillaSushi. That guy is always good for helping us out. Unfortunately, one entry leaves little in the way of a “contest” so I figured we’d just let it slide and come up with a better one. I realize it’s difficult to take a picture and email it…wait no it’s not. But still, the next contest will be much easier. I’ve got to unload these DVDs!

I never knew where Marshall University was located. I didn’t really care either. Then my girlfriend won the “UCF Getaway” and we got a free vacation package to watch the UCF at Marshall game in Huntington, West Virginia. We get a free flight, free hotel, and free tickets to the game. Not bad for filling out some random contest form at Nascar Cafe in Orlando.

We’re staying at Pullman Plaza which is located right next to the center of town. Apparently there are lots of bars in walking distance from the hotel, so this will be an excellent trip. Oh it’ll also be 46 degrees which might as well be 0 to this Florida dude. I’ll make sure to take plenty of pictures and stuff…and you should see if the game is being televised in your area. Maybe you’ll see us.

Something in my head made me set the deadline for our costume contest on October 30th. Don’t most people get dressed up ON Halloween? So yeah, tonight, take pictures of your horrible costumes and send them to contests@average-dudes.com! Photos must be received by November 2nd at 11:59PM. DO IT!!!!

Hopefully you’ve already gone over our Dumbass’s Guide to Crappy Halloween Costumes and gotten an idea of what you’re going to be for Halloween. Here’s the deal: we want to see what you’ve come up with. We want pictures of your costumes, your girlfriend’s costumes (or just your girlfriend)…whatever. We’ll look through the submissions and choose a few lucky dudes (or dudettes) to win. The best of the best (or worst of the worst) will get a History Channel DVD (it’s cooler than it sounds…details below) while runners up will get some sweet Shipyard Brewery swag.
