Review - Buzz Shot Makes Your Beer Pong Awesom-er

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

We all know that beer pong is one of those games that every average dude should know. It requires skill, concentration, and an unusually large stomach. If you’re anything like us at a UCF tailgate, then you’ve probably played the game to the point that it has become mundane…a lot like your relationship with your girlfriend (it’s ok, it’s just us dudes here). Enter Buzz Shot, a simple yet effective way to spice up your beer pong-ing-ing….ing. (more…)

Find the Best Beer in America

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Here’s a giant map of the US that shows what states have the best beer. The data is based on “Great American Beer Festival medal winners 1987-2007.” I’m booking my flight to California as we speak…and I may never see any of you again so farewell. Click here to see the full-size map.

Random Rant: Get that Analyst a Beer!

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

We like sports (and we don’t care who knows). One of the most painful things about watching any sporting event on TV is the bumbling fools who “analyze” them. Sure, there are a few diamonds in the rough, but overall these guys do nothing but spew out obvious, generic comments about plays and the “keys” to winning the game. I’m no expert, but I think the “key” to winning any game is to score more points than the opponent. That is not an acceptable thing for any analyst to say. Yet, they still do it. So here’s what I propose: (more…)

50th Anniversary of the Aluminum Beer Can

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

50 years ago yesterday (January 22nd, 1959), Coors Light introduced the aluminum beer can. Up until that point, cans were mostly made of tin. The introduction of aluminum cans also led to the development of aluminum recycling. Fascinating, huh?

The can gets a bad rap because most inexperienced beer drinkers (frat guys) don’t understand the mechanics of how taste works. About 80% of what you taste comes from smell. When you’re drinking from a can, what’s pushed up into your nose? The can. That’s why beer from a can “tastes” like aluminum. If you take that can and pour it into a glass, straight down the center to release some of the carbon dioxide, the resulting glass will taste better than a beer out of a bottle. You can thank the Anheuser-Busch hospitality center at Sea World for that little tidbit.

Samuel Adams Utopias - Would Someone Please Send Us a Pint?

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Samuel Adams has a little-known selection of beers that they like to call “extreme.” Among them are Chocolate Bock (which I need to try), Triple Bock, Hallertau Imperial Pilsner, and…..Utopias. I’ll let them explain:

Truly the epitome of brewing’s two thousand year evolution, Samuel Adams Utopias® offers a flavor not just unlike any other beer but unlike any other beverage in the world. Its warm, sweet flavor is richly highlighted with hints of vanilla, oak and caramel. With an alcohol content of 27% by volume, its complexity and sweet, malty flavor is reminiscent of a deep, rich vintage Port, fine Cognac or aged sherry while being surprisingly light on the palate. And like the world’s finest after-dinner drinks, Samuel Adams Utopias is not carbonated and should be served at room temperature.

Yes, 27% alcohol by volume. That’s 54 proof. Utopias will run you about $130 for a 24 ounce bottle. I know a certain dude who’s having a birthday soon…

Is Your Grandma This Cool?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

So cakes and cookies are good and all but nothing beats your grandma manning up and doing a keg stand.  This nanna here is a true trooper at the age of 83!  What you didn’t see is grandpa off in the corner doing a bong hit….

Shipyard Pumpkinhead is BACK!

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Me and Dyna just attended a welcome home party for Shipyard’s seasonal Pumpkinhead Ale. It’s something we look forward to all year (I think I still have some in my fridge from the stock-up last year…)

If you happen to be a fan of Pumpkinhead, pumpkin flavored brews, or just fall stuff in general, get ready to hit your local Shipyard reseller. This stuff rules.
