There is something to be said about this guy. His life’s goal is to archive every piece of vinyl ever created. I’ve had many stupid hobbies in my time but this one actually has meaning and purpose. This video is a tad on the long side and is kind of depressing so be prepared to break out the tissues.
Weezer, the nerdiest rock band ever, released details on their sixth studio album. They’re going back to their self-titled color theme with this one. Their first album is widely known as the “Blue Album” because of its blue color, their third album (second self-titled) is the “Green Album”…I’ll give you three guesses what this one is called. The album will be released on June 24th.
You can listen to the first single, “Pork and Beans,” at weezer.com. I wasn’t a huge fan of their previous album, but so far I dig the new stuff. It also doesn’t hurt that Rivers (singer) is sportin’ an awesome ’stache.
To catch you up a tad, Axl Rose, the singer and sole remaining original member of Guns N’ Roses, has been working on a new album for more than a decade. The album, titled Chinese Democracy, has become something of a legend because it’s been in production for so long and has been delayed so many times. You’d think someone could have had the common courtesy to leak it on the internet by now.
For some weird reason, Dr. Pepper (yes, the soft drink company) has offered a reward of sorts if the band manages to release the album in 2008. Everyone in the United States will receive a free Dr. Pepper if the album sees the light of day this year, the only exceptions being former GNR guitarists Slash and Buckethead. No Dr. Pepper for them.
I can’t imagine the motivation behind this campaign but I’ll take a free Dr. Pepper. Will I buy the album? Probably not. Would you?
I’m a big fan of music. I come from a musical family, play in a band with my brother (Megaphone), and I own a few iPods. As a fan of (good) music, I find the radio to be nothing more than a source of frustration. It’s no secret that radio stations only play songs from approved playlists, meaning you’re basically forced to listen to what the record executives and station managers deem worthy. As a result, you can listen to the radio for a matter of a few hours and begin to hear the same songs over again. My simple solution was to just ignore it completely and use my iPod instead. After the events of today, I have a feeling a lot more people will find themselves making the same decision. (more…)
Let me just say that I am a massive Foo Fighters fan. Granted, when I first saw their video for Big Me, I thought they were a band of gay dudes. Give me a break…I was like 11. After hearing their second album, “The Colour and the Shape,” however, I promptly gave myself 30 lashings for my sins and learned how to play Monkey Wrench on guitar. (more…)
It looks as if DRM is going the way of the caribou dodo. Wal-Mart has now jumped on the Anti-DRM platform that other digital music leaders, Apple and Amazon, have already been on. Since Wal-Mart equals god in the retail world, it may actually happen. (more…)
Butch Walker is one of my favorite musicians. Not only does he have an extensive and amazing catalog of his own songs, he’s also written hits for almost every artist you’ve ever heard of. Unfortunately, his house in Malibu just burned to the ground. It’s sad enough that he lost his home, but to add to it, he lost pretty much everything else too. (more…)
Wired has written a pretty extensive article about one of the most douchey prominent figures in the music industry: CEO of Universal Music Group, Doug Morris.
